Farmers’ Jury in November
“Farmers Jury” media interaction witnessed a heated views exchanged between the veteran journalists and key speakers which was held in Bangalore at a private hotel.
Veteren journalist Shailesh Chandra Gupta urged the (Democratizing Agriculture Research in South Asia) ADARSHA conveners to get involve policy makers ie politicians and bureaucrats in the Farmers Jury campaign.
Vikranta Karnataka Editor Ravindra Reshme opined that the “Farmers Jury” campaign itself is biased against the US, a democratic country. Why we always look at US suspiciously, questioned.
Answering all the questions and opinions P.V. Sateesha, convener of ADARSHA said our campaign is against the multinationals which are into the agriculture research without involving farmer who are doing agriculture since five thousand years. They have monopolized the entire research work and influencing policy makers to formulate policies which benefit the multinationals not the farmers.
He explained all the changes taken place in agriculture sector from green revolution to till today said that “Farmer Jury” campaign would advocate for involvement of farmers in policy making processes and sought help from the media to support the farmers cause for their welfare. Babu from Institute for Cultural Research & Action (ICRA) and Appiko movement activist Panduranga Hegde were present at the interactive session.
